Scott McCarthy founder/ owner/ personal trainer & nutrition coach
Scott McCarthy is a highly accomplished personal trainer and fitness entrepreneur based in Wilmington, Delaware. He began his journey in the fitness industry in 2001 and quickly developed a passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals.
In 2005, Scott founded Balance Strength & Fitness, a personal training studio located in Trolley Square, which started as a small 900 square foot space. As a result of his exceptional training skills and client satisfaction, the studio gained popularity, leading Scott to expand to a larger 1800 sq ft facility by taking over the adjacent space.
As his business grew and more people turned to him for their fitness needs, Scott decided to take a bold step and moved to a 5500 square foot full gym on the west side of Wilmington in 2015. The new location provided more space for him to expand his services, allowing him to offer one-on-one, partner, and group personal training.
In addition to personal training, Scott is a skilled instructor in various fitness classes, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu basics, HIIT, and strength & muscle classes. His classes have a reputation for being challenging, yet fun, and he ensures that all participants receive a personalized workout experience tailored to their fitness level and goals.

Chris Sumo personal trainer & nutrition coach
Chris Sumo is a highly skilled and experienced personal trainer and nutrition coach, with a passion for helping individuals achieve their health and fitness goals. With over a decade of professional experience, he has honed his skills in the fields of functional training, HIIT, speed/agility/quickness, and nutrition, and has worked with clients of all ages and abilities.
Chris is an ISSA certified personal trainer, speed & agility coach, and nutritionist, and has trained clients in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware since 2011. He specializes in functional training, which focuses on mobility, strength, and recovery, and is designed to improve overall fitness and well-being.
In addition to his expertise in functional training, Chris is also highly skilled in HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), which is an effective way to burn fat and build lean muscle. He also has extensive experience in speed, agility, and quickness training, which is essential for athletes looking to improve their performance.
Chris is passionate about working with youth and teen clients, and has extensive experience in strength and conditioning training for this age group. He is also skilled in senior mobility and strength training, and understands the unique needs of older adults.
